5 BOLD PREDICTIONS FOR THE 2025 INDIANA FEVER SEASON

WRITTEN + EDITED BY JORDYN BONTRAGER

Do not look now, but WNBA basketball is just around the corner.

As we all know, headlines were a plenty in terms of star player repositioning across the league this offseason. Kelsey Plum moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. Brittney Griner fled Phoenix for Atlanta. The Mercury responded by picking up Alyssa Thomas from Connecticut. Then they snagged Satou Sabally from Dallas. Dallas responded by copping defensive menace DiJonai Carrington from the Sun, and seem destined to select CHAMPION Paige Bueckers with the #1 pick in Monday’s 2025 WNBA draft.

Amidst all of that motion, it was the Indiana Fever who made the most substantial movements from a needle-moving perspective. First it was Natasha Howard coming aboard to solidify outbound NaLyssa Smith’s starting 4 spot. Next it was Sophie Cunningham coming over from Phoenix to arm young GOAT CC with another dangerous outside shooting threat (career 36.2% 3FG) whom doubles as a defensive pest on the perimeter. Rookie GM Amber Cox followed that pair of purely promising pickups by obtaining the services of 2024 All-Star combo forward DeWanna Bonner, 2x All-Defensive big Brianna Turner, and 2x WNBA champion floor general Sydney Colson.

Needless to say, the league’s worst team just 2 seasons ago no longer resides amongst the W’s bottom dwellers. And after earning it’s first postseason appearance since 2016, the Circle City franchise appears on the cusp of taking the next step towards title contention.

Whether they can make that leap this SZN remains to be seen, but there is no denying that some big things are en route to Indianapolis. Only time will reveal exactly what transpires, but here are a few noteworthy happenings we foresee coming to fruition for the Indiana Fever in 2025.

1: CAITLIN CLARK WILL WIN 2025 WNBA MVP

Anyone contesting Caitlin Clark’s place as the league’s most important player should seek mental treatment. Now, making her case as the league’s best overall player is a little more up for debate. 2x champion A’ja Wilson has been crowned MVP in 3 of the past 5 seasons. 3x champ Breanna Stewart claimed that label in 2023. Napheesa Collier has yet to win a title or earn MVP honors, but she was Wilson’s runner-up for the accolade last season while simultaneously guiding Minnesota to a runner-up finish versus Stewart’s New York Liberty in the Finals. That is the most league’s most talented trio… of frontcourt players.

The title of league’s most transcendent player goes to CC, though. With all due respect to her aforementioned peers, Clark’s ability to annihilate oppositional forces so quickly (finished 4th in MVP voting in the GOAT rookie SZN) should be concerning for the rest of the league. We could go on for days about all of the reasons why this superhero/woman will supplant her fellow elites on the top of the totem pole this year, but that could take a lifetime.

2: FEVER EASILY SHATTER THEIR OWN RECORD FOR ATTENDANCE

Last season, CC’s arrival catapulted this team into must-watch territory. Thus, it should have been a surprise to no one when they absolutely shattered the WNBA record for home (and overall) attendance in 2024. And that was only the inaugural year of the Caitlin Clark experience.

Imagine how many more fans will show out to see the Fever this year with a massively improved roster surrounding the PG prodigy. Road game venues are already being relocated to meet capacity demand requirements when Indiana comes to town.

3: 4 PLAYERS EARN ALL-STAR HONORS

With all due respect to the supporting cast, there is a quintet of active Fever ballers who could feasibly find themselves competing in the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game: Caitlin Clark x Kelsey Mitchell x Aliyah Boston x DeWanna Bonner x Natasha Howard. While Howard was the sole member of that group excluded from last season’s ASG festivities, the 33-year-old owns a pair of ASG appearances (2019, 2022) and is fresh off of arguably her best overall campaign (27 GP | 27 GS | 30.6 MPG | 17.6 PPG | 6.7 RPG | 2.9 APG VS 2.8 TOPG | 1.3 SPG | 0.8 BPG | 45.6% FG | 20.0% 3FG | 71.8% FT). If she is your 5th-best player, you should be hypothetically unstoppable on paper.

Shoot, maybe the Fever become the WNBA’s first team with 5 All-Stars. That may be far-fetched, but a quartet of Fever representing the squad within the friendly confines of Gainbridge Fieldhouse during the 2025 ASG seems realistic (if not inevitable).

4: TEAM AVERAGES MOST PPG IN WNBA HISTORY

DeWanna Bonner was a member of the team who holds the single season record for average PPG (2009 Phoenix Mercury put up 92.8 PPG). Oddly enough, 16 years later she will also be on the team who breaks that record.

We all saw the synergy exuded by the league’s best backcourt last SZN. We have all seen the social media love bounced back and forth between Kelslin this offseason, and the sky is the limit for the level of production we will see from them in the incoming sequel season. That previous sentence similarly applies to Aliyah Boston, who improved all-around as her sophomore year progressed and should be in store for another season of growth. Bonner and Howard add a versatile blend of scoring dynamics to Caitlin’s cabinet of weaponry, each possessing the power to lead the team in scoring on any given night. X-Factor Lexie Hull and her twin Sophie Cunningham may not lead the scoring charge often (or ever), but will combine to form one of the (if not THE) association’s best 3&D wing duos. Damiris Dantas earned her place in the regular rotation in 2024, most notably via her ability to space the floor from the Center position (39.4% 3FG last year).

Indiana is going to be an offensive juggernaut this season. Book that.

5: FEVER MAKE 2025 WNBA FINALS

Perhaps this may come off a bit premature, but do not be puzzled when the lady Pacers are participating in the 2025 WNBA Finals. Stephanie White is the perfect basketball mastermind to pull the sideline strings, and this entire organization is riding an active wave of momentum which started last season and sustained this offseason. Maybe they are a year away from reaching their preferred destination, but it just seems like all signs are pointing them towards an early arrival.

Keep going, Amber Cox!
